Teratology

Another in the series of blog posts that will form the basis of a book is Teratology, also known as the study of deformities. The architectural profession has foisted many such deformities on an unassuming public. These structures, usually built at outrageous expense, stand in contempt of sustainability and the wisdom of adaptive reuse. The fetishes and curios of these design gurus stand as monuments to the era of greed and irresponsibility that led to financial collapse.

In the coming years these same architects will attempt to recast themselves as the high priests and priestesses of the green movement. They have a lot of catching up to do as the practice has moved beyond them.

Any catalog of these structures and the affects they have wrought on their surroundings will read as an anthology of woe. While I will do my my best to inject humor, the truth of the subject is no laughing matter. Great swaths of land have been developed in a manner that is not fit for human habitation. Further, the only solution for many of these ghost towns is to bulldoze it all and start over. What a waste.
