Modern Vernacular :: The Haunting

With Halloween approaching I thought it appropriate to post about the one thing that has been haunting me for years.

This beast is responsible for the uglification of millions of houses the world over. It is none other than the ubiquitous sliding glass door. It dominates whatever façade it is forced upon. It is so user unfriendly that a cottage industry has cropped up of stickers to provide a clue reminding people there is a solid piece of glass in their direct path of travel.

For all its ill effects the dreaded sliding glass door is adored by the very people it hurts the most. Why? Because it permits a tremendous amount of natural light, affords expansive views, and costs a fraction of what the equivalent French doors would set you back.

Right now someone is waiting to ruin your design by installing a sliding glass door. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
